A Lincoln man is in jail after Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies say he threatened members of his family with a handgun Wednesday evening. LSO Captain John Vik says deputies were called just before 7 p.m. to a home near 91st Street and Leighton Avenue on a report of an intoxicated man threatening his fiancée and two adult children.
“Given the nature of that call, there were LSO deputies that were dispatched but also Lincoln police officers, and both got there relatively quickly,” Vik tells KLIN News. “After repeatedly denying law enforcement commands to get away from the firearms and to be placed into custody, a taser was deployed and the gentleman was taken into custody.”
Investigators identified the suspect as 58-year-old Monty Harner of Lincoln. He was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility for terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
Vik said the incident could have ended much differently. “We’re grateful for the quick response by deputies and officers, but also just grateful for the professionalism that they showed to safely get this individual into custody with no other injuries. It certainly could have been a much worse situation for all involved,” Vik says.
