A Lincoln program helping people with Parkinson’s disease stay active and improve quality of life is expanding thanks to a new grant. The Parkinson’s Foundation has awarded Bryan Health an $8,000 grant to grow its Rock Steady Boxing program at Bryan LifePointe.

Rock Steady Boxing is a no-contact fitness program designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease. The program uses boxing movements, strength training, balance exercises, and cognitive activities to help participants maintain physical abilities and independence.

Starting August 31st, Bryan will add an evening class three days a week. Financial and travel assistance may also be available for qualifying participants. Bryan Medical Center Rehabilitation Services Director Cindy Nehe says the program gives people with Parkinson’s a way to stay strong and connected.

“Rock Steady Boxing gives those with Parkinson’s the power to fight back, build physical strength and find a network of support,” Nehe says. “This grant allows us to grow our program and welcome more participants into our supportive community.”

The program offers four levels of classes based on participants’ symptoms and experience with physical activity.  “Our community grant programs are truly life-changing for people with Parkinson’s from all walks of life,” says Parkinson’s Foundation President and CEO John Lehr.

Bryan LifePointe is currently the only facility in Lincoln offering Rock Steady Boxing. More information and registration details are available by clicking here.
