Lincoln Public Schools is planning a major investment in school security as part of its proposed 2026-27 budget. District officials are proposing security upgrades at 31 school buildings that would create secure visitor vestibules, allowing guests to be screened before entering the main office.
The project is part of the proposed $586.4 million spending plan presented to the Lincoln Board of Education this week. The security improvements are included under the district’s “District Systems and Operations” priorities. The proposal also sets aside funding to cover higher insurance costs and additional staffing expenses tied to new state background check requirements.
Overall, the proposed budget includes investments in student support, with about $1.5 million for counselors and behavior framework coaches, nearly $1.1 million to add staff across the district, and approximately $1.75 million for special education teachers and support services.
The Board of Education is expected to continue reviewing the proposed budget in the coming weeks before taking final action.
