Nebraska volleyball seniors Harper Murray, Andi Jackson and Bergen Reilly were three of the 30 players listed on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Year watch list, released Wednesday.
All three were AVCA first-team All-Americans last year. Jackson added AVCA Middle Blocker of the Year honors as she piled up 2.74 kills per set and a nation-leading .467 hitting percentage. In conference-only matches last year, Jackson hit a blistering .559, breaking the Big Ten record for best hitting percentage in conference play.
Murray earned her third straight first-team All-America honor last year, averaging a career-best 3.54 kills per set while hitting .295. Reilly was named first-team All-American and AVCA Setter of the Year last year while grabbing Big Ten Player of the Year laurels, averaging 10.47 assists per set, 2.70 digs per set and leading the Cornhuskers to a school-record .351 hitting percentage last year.
The Player of the Year Watch List was compiled by the AVCA Division I Women’s Volleyball Awards Committee. They will also be the group working on the additional phases of the Player of the Year process. Midseason additions to the list will come in October, and the semifinalists will be named in November. Finalists will be announced on Dec. 14, and the Player of the Year Award will be presented in San Antonio at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Friday, Dec. 18.
