The Lincoln Police Department has kicked off its Fall 2026 police academy with 20 new recruits beginning training. Three recruits from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office are also part of the class.

“We are looking forward to working with them in the academy for the next five months or so,” says LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas. “They’ll graduate toward the end of December and then move into our field training program.”

Thomas says with the new academy underway, the department has reached 374 sworn officers, or 101 percent of its authorized staffing level of 371. She says the continued growth is a positive sign for recruiting and staffing efforts.
