Nebraska has taken another step toward implementing its medical marijuana program. Governor Jim Pillen has approved permanent regulations drafted by the state Medical Cannabis Commission. The governor’s action comes one day after Attorney General Mike Hilgers determined the rules were within the commission’s statutory and constitutional authority.
The regulations will now be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. Under state law, they will take effect five days after they’re received by the secretary of state.
The approval establishes the permanent regulatory framework for Nebraska’s medical cannabis program and marks another milestone in the state’s rollout of medical marijuana following voter approval of the initiative.
