Fireworks will be allowed at three Nebraska state recreation areas on the Fourth of July, including one in Lancaster County. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says visitors may set off  fireworks from 8 a.m. until midnight on July 4 at designated locations only.

Spokesman Greg Wagner tells KLIN News at Branched Oak State Recreation Area, fireworks will be permitted from Lieber’s Point on the west side of the lake. Designated sites also include the Area 1 beach at Pawnee State Recreation Area and the beach at Wagon Train State Recreation Area.

“You can pull up your chairs and watch individuals touch off legal Nebraska fireworks at these locations.” Wagner says signs will direct visitors to the approved launch areas, and fireworks are prohibited everywhere else in state parks and recreation areas.

Game and Parks is also reminding people to put safety first. Only fireworks approved for sale in Nebraska are allowed, used fireworks should be soaked in water before being thrown away, and a bucket of water or fire extinguisher should be kept nearby. Children must be supervised, and users are responsible for safely handling and cleaning up their fireworks.
