The Lincoln Police Department says a recent seatbelt enforcement effort resulted in more than 150 traffic stops and nearly 200 citations.

LPD released results from its “Make It Click” seatbelt enforcement initiative, conducted May 15th through the 31st. Officers worked overtime during peak times when seatbelt use tends to decline, including evenings and weekends.

During the campaign, officers made 160 traffic stops, issued 188 citations and 42 warnings, and filed four criminal charges. One warrant was also served, and 15 drivers were cited for driving under suspension.

Seatbelt violations accounted for 14 citations. Other violations included 75 registration violations, 38 speeding citations, 18 insurance violations, and several stop sign and traffic signal violations.

LPD says the effort was funded through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office as part of the nationwide “Make It Click” campaign, which encourages drivers and passengers to buckle up every trip.
