Lincoln residents are invited to celebrate Juneteenth with a free community event this weekend at the F Street Community Center. The center, located at 12th and F Streets, will host a family-friendly Juneteenth celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Assistant Center Director JT Taylor tells KLIN News they will have a number of family friendly activities, including free food from the grill, ice cream, face painting, carnival games, live music, yard games, and a community art project.

There will also be free haircuts for children.  Taylor says the Juneteenth event will honor freedom, history, and the strength of the community. “We’re all one, were all together and history is what it was. We’re just here to observe such a monumental time in history.”

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free.
