Lincoln Police say a storage unit purchased at auction led to the discovery of a suspected methamphetamine lab.  LPD and LFR crews were sent to sent to the storage facility near 3rd and ‘A’ Street just after 5:00 Tuesday evening.

“The gentleman who won the auction showed about 2:30 and began unloading,” says LFR Battalion Chief Jim Bopp.  “He discovered some items that were perhaps used to cook methamphetamine.”

Lincoln Police say there was a semi active meth lab inside the unit. “So then we were called out because it involved some hazardous materials,” Bopp says. “We found very small trace amounts of  whatever it might be, therefore we called in the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department and they properly package them and remove them.”

After assessing the scene, LPD investigators determined that the potential hazards associated with processing the evidence outweighed any evidentiary value.  Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the case is unlikely to result in criminal charges, and no arrests have been made.
