Jesse Farrell drove in five runs and Jordy Frahm turned in another sterling pitching performance as No. 1 Nebraska softball won game one of its Super Regional with Oklahoma State (41-16), winning 8-1 Friday at Bowlin Stadium/Rhonda Revelle Field to draw to within one win of the Women’s College World Series.

The game began Thursday before it was suspended due to rain with one out in the bottom of the first inning with Hannah Coor at first and one out. Hannah Camenzind singled to left, putting two on with one out. Farrell followed with a three-run home run to left off All-American pitcher Ruby Meylan. Then in the third, Camenzind led off the inning with a walk. Ava Kuszak followed with a double to right, putting runners at second and third. Farrell followed with a two-run single up the middle, pushing the Nebraska (50-6) lead to 5-0. A double by Samantha Bland and two RBI groundouts boosted the lead to 7-0.

That was more than enough support for Frahm, who allowed two infield singles and a walk through the first five innings. Frahm retired 13 in a row before allowing a home run to Karli Godwin in the top of the sixth, cutting the Huskers’ lead to 7-1. A Kuszak sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth pushed the lead back to seven, and Frahm finished off the win for the Huskers. The win was NU’s 25th straight and the 39th of the last 40.

Nebraska now is just one win away from advancing to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2013. The Huskers will host the Cowgirls in game two in the Super Regional Saturday at Bowlin Stadium/Rhonda Revelle FIeld. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 3:45 p.m. on B-107.3.
