Husker Softball No. 1 in final poll before NCAAs

Just before the beginning of the NCAA Tournament, the Nebraska softball team has reached a new height: No. 1 in the nation.

The Cornhuskers were ranked No. 1 by the NFCA Coaches Poll, the longest running poll in college softball, Tuesday in the last set of rankings before the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska’s prior highest ranked is second, last week. The Huskers had been ranked third the week before, matching their prior highest ranking in the NFCA poll. Nebraska received 26 of 31 first place votes. Oklahoma received two first-place votes and ranked second. Alabama received two first-place votes and ranked third. Texas Tech picked up the other first-place vote and was fourth

Nebraska is the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, which begins Friday around the nation. The Huskers will face South Dakota in the first round of the tournament at Bowlin Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with pregame coverage at 5:15 p.m. on B-107.3.
