The annual Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony is set for Friday in Grand Island. The ceremony honors the service and sacrifice of Nebraska’s fallen law enforcement officers.
This year’s ceremony will include the addition of two names to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial: NSP Trooper Kyle McAcy and Department of Corrections Officer Kolby Baber, says La Vista Police Captain Ray Harrod, Memorial Committee president.
“The Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony serves as a solemn tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, while recognizing the ongoing commitment of law enforcement officers across the state.”
Governor Jim Pillen and Attorney General Mike Hilgers will deliver welcoming remarks. Law enforcement reflections will be presented by Bryan Tuma, executive director of the Nebraska Crime Commission and former colonel of the Nebraska State Patrol. Harrod says a family remembrance and reflection will also be part of the ceremony.
“This year, that will be Tiffany Yant, the daughter of Ross Bartlett, who was added to the wall last year,” Harrod says. Bartlett was killed in the line of duty when his cruiser was struck by a vehicle while he was conducting a traffic stop on the side of the road.
The keynote address will be given by Nebraska State Patrol Colonel Bryan Waugh. The ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public.
