Lincoln residents are invited to show the city’s trail system some love this weekend.
The Parks and Recreation Department will host a citywide Trail Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 25, encouraging volunteers to pick up litter along any trail.
Parks Operations Coordinator Mike Comstock said the event is part of the national Celebrate Trails Day initiative and aims to promote environmental stewardship.
“Our trails connect us to nature, to one another, and to the health of our community,” Comstock said. “This cleanup effort is a simple and meaningful way for residents to help maintain the spaces they enjoy every day.”
Participants are asked to bring their own supplies, including trash bags, gloves and water, and can dispose of collected litter in bins along trails or in nearby parks. Afterward, volunteers are encouraged to report their cleanup totals through an online form at lincoln.ne.gov/TrailCleanUp.
The Parks Department will track the number of bags collected and estimate the total weight to measure the event’s impact. No registration is required.
Lincoln’s trail network snakes about 186 miles through the city. Officials say volunteer efforts like this, along with the city’s Adopt-A-Trail program, help maintain safe, accessible outdoor spaces and protect local habitats.
