No. 16 Kansas baseball defeated No. 20 Nebraska, 9-7, Tuesday night in a sold-out Hoaglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan. It was the second time in two weeks that the Jayhawks (30-11) defeated the Cornhuskers (31-10) by two runs.

Kansas jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Nebraska answered with three runs in the top of the third, with Will Jesske’s RBI single giving the Huskers a 4-3 lead. But the Jayhawks stormed back. In the bottom of the sixth, Tyson Owens hammered a solo home run to center field to tie the game. Later that inning, Josh Dykhoff clubbed a two-run home run to right-center, giving KU a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Tyson LeBlanc ripped an RBI triple to center, pushing the lead to three. Augusto Mungarrieta followed with a two-run home run to open the lead to 9-4.

Nebraska chipped away in the top of the eighth. Drew Grego singled to left, driving in a run to cut the deficit to 9-5. After a run scored on a double play, an RBI single to center by Mac Moyer shrunk Kansas’s lead to 9-7, but the Huskers drew no closer.

Nebraska is back in action Friday at Illinois at 6 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
