The number of Lincoln workplaces officially recognized as “family-friendly” has tripled over the last few months.

The Lincoln Family-Friendly Workplace Certification Program, administered though the nonprofit Lincoln Littles and the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development, was announced in October 2025 and commends employers who adopt family-friendly workplace practices, such as paid parental leave, hybrid options, and caregiver resources.

In December, the program’s inaugural 13 employers received certifications: Ameritas, City of Lincoln, Don’t Panic Labs, FNBO, Hudl, Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Lincoln Community Foundation, Lincoln Electric System, Primrose School at Hudl, Primrose School of Lincoln at Wilderness Hills, Schemmer, TMCO and University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Now, that number has grown to 39 total employers.

The new 26 include: Arbor Day Foundation, Assurity, BCom, Belmont Community Center, Black Hills Energy, Charter Title & Escrow, Children’s Nebraska, Civic Nebraska, Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, Family Service Lincoln, Google, Las Abejitas Bilingual Education Center, Lincoln Children’s Museum, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Lutz, Monolith Resources LLC, NEBCO, Inc., Nebraska Investment Finance Authority, Nebraska Wesleyan University, NRC Health, Olsson, Schwisow Construction, Speedway Motors, Speedway Properties, Union Bank & Trust and University of Nebraska Foundation.

Jason Ball, President and CEO of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, said Tuesday on LNK Today this program helps employers stay competitive and retain workers.

“All 39 of the businesses that have received this certification so far have done it because they feel, at some level, it’s the right thing to do for their employees,” Ball said. “They want people to be totally focused on work and not worry about their kids during the day.”

The initiative aims to help companies attract and retain workers by formalizing standards around benefits for young families. The program provides resources & support to all area employers free of charge.

To gain certification, employers must meet at least 7 out of 10 qualifying criteria. Complete details on the program can be found at selectlincoln.org.
