Lincoln residents are invited to come together this Friday for a celebration of art, history, and youth leadership.  Lincoln City Libraries is hosting a free reception for a new art installation by Lincoln native Jevon Woods.

Woods’ piece, titled “The Rally,” highlights the power of young people to drive change. It draws inspiration from the Birmingham Children’s March and connects that legacy to today’s efforts, including Lincoln’s annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Rally.

“Placing this work in the library creates space for the community to encounter it together,” says Peter Ferguson, Youth Rally Adult Advisor. “It connects the story of the Rally and its scholar leaders with a place dedicated to learning, reflection and shared experience.”

Using a mix of acrylic, ink, and marker, the installation encourages viewers to reflect on the past while moving forward together in equity, justice, and community.  Friday’s event begins with a special storytime led by the Youth Rally Planning Committee, open to preschool-aged children. Afterward, attendees will walk together to the mural for its official unveiling, followed by a placard reading led by local students.

Refreshments will be served.
