No. 6 Nebraska softball dominated Minnesota, 17-2, Saturday in Minneapolis. The game, shortened to five innings by the mercy rule, saw the Cornhuskers score a season high 17 runs, including a season high 10 runs in the fifth inning alone.
Nebraska broke through with two runs in the third inning. Then in the fourth, a grand slam by Hannah Coor pushed the lead 6-0. Kacie Hoffmann hit an RBI single to left, opening the lead to 7-0. The Golden Gophers scored once in the bottom of the fourth. But in the fifth, the dam burst as the Huskers scored a season high 10 runs, highlighted by a Jesse Farrell grand slam.
Kuszak paced the NU offense, hitting 3-for-4 with two RBI. Coor, Hannah Camenzind, Hoffmann and Samantha Bland all had two hits as well.
Nebraska has won 10 in a row and 24 of the last 25 games. The victory, coupled with No. 13 Oregon’s 5-4 win over No. 23 Washington, gives the Huskers sole possession of first place in the Big Ten for the first time this season. The Huskers will try to sweep their fifth Big Ten series out of six this year Sunday at noon in Minneapolis. Pregame coverage begins at 11:45 a.m. on B-107.3.
