A free screening event focused on early detection of oral, head and neck cancers will be held this Tuesday, April 21, in Lincoln.

The event runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at GO Physical Therapy Balance Mobility & Cancer Rehab (4001 ‘O’ Street) and will include a range of quick, non-invasive health screenings.

Organizers say attendees can receive oral, head and neck cancer screenings, along with hearing, cognitive, balance and strength checks.

Polly Ubben, a speech pathologist helping organize the event, said early detection is critical.

“About 70% of head and neck cancers are caught in later stages,” Ubben said. “That’s why we really push for preventative screenings.”

Ubben said the screenings are simple and take only a few minutes, with trained healthcare professionals and students guiding participants through each station.

The event is held in recognition of April as oral cancer awareness month and has expanded in recent years to include additional health screenings.

No registration is required, and organizers say community members can stop in at any time during the event.
