No. 24 Nebraska baseball erased an early four-run deficit and hung on to beat Creighton 5-4 Tuesday at Hawks Field.

The Bluejays bolted out to a 4-0 lead 1.5 innings into the game. But then, in the bottom of the second, Drew Grego clubbed a two-run home run to right field, cutting the Creighton lead to 4-2. Then in the bottom of the third, Grego drove in a run with a single up the middle, pulling the Cornhuskers to within one. Joshua Overbeek’s RBI single to right tied the game at four, and Rhett Stokes RBI single to right gave Nebraska its first lead of the game.

The Huskers bullpen made sure that lead held up. Caleb Clark, Ty Horn and J’Shawn Unger combined for six innings of two-hit, shutout relief.

The win clinches the season series for Nebraska. The Huskers also beat Creighton March 31, 6-5. It’s the first time since 2017 that NU has won the season series with its in-state rival. The teams will square off again May 12 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

The Huskers now prepare for a big three-game series against No. 12 USC beginning Friday at Hawks Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
