A man convicted of a shocking crime in Laurel, Nebraska four years ago has been sentenced to death.  A three-judge panel returned the sentence on Friday for Jason Jones, who was found guilty of killing for people in the small town in August 2022.

Jones killed Michelle Ebeling, Janet and Gene Twiford and their daughter Dana Twiford.  The Twiford’s and Ebeling were found dead in their homes, which were set on fire.   “We are grateful for the work of the three-judge panel and their thorough and well-reasoned order,” Attorney General Mike Hilgers said in a statement.

“The panel laid out the horrific details surrounding the quadruple homicide Jason Jones committed and explained why the death penalty is an appropriate sentence under these facts, under the language of the Nebraska statutes, and the history of Nebraska case law where the death penalty was imposed.

Jones’ wife Carrie was previously sentenced to life in prison after she was found guilty in August of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and being an accessory.
