Nebraska State employees are doing their part to alleviate hunger in Lincoln and across the region.  On Thursday they held their 41st annual “Stuff the Truck” event at the Nebraska State Capitol to benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln.

Carole Nelsen is the event organizer and tells KLIN News workers brought all of their non-perishable food items to the north side of the Capitol where Food Bank employees loaded them on a truck. Nelson says this annual event has been a huge success.

“Last year we donated 8,000 pounds of food During last year’s State Campaign Against Hunger, state employees donated more than 8,100 pounds of food and we had enough for 52,000 meals,” Nelson says.  Employees also donated $22,000 in cash, which will allow the Food Bank to purchase even more food.

Nearly 70,000 people in the Food Bank of Lincoln’s 16-county service area are food insecure and nearly one-third are children.
