No. 19 Nebraska’s 10-game winning streak was snapped with a 5-3 loss to Kansas Tuesday at Hawks Field. The loss also was the Cornhuskers’ first at home after they’d won 15 straight to begin their home schedule.
Nebraska (26-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, as Mac Moyer hit a two-run single through the left side. Kansas answered in the top of the fifth, as Dylan Schlotterbeck singled to right to drive in a run. The Huskers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, as Miken Miller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, boosting NU’s lead to 3-1. But in the top of the sixth, Brady Ballinger laced an RBI double to right, cutting the deficit to one. Auguston Mungarrieta followed with an RBI double to right field, tying the game at three.
Kansas (23-10) took the lead for the first time in the top of the seventh, when the Jayhawks got a two-run single to right from Mungarrieta to take a 5-3 lead. The Jayhawks’ bullpen retired the last nine Nebraska batters to secure the win, Kansas’s seventh straight.
Caleb Clark (1-2) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs in 0.1 inning pitched. Boede Rahe threw three perfect innings to earn the save, his second of the year, while Manning West (3-0) threw a shutout inning of relief to earn the win.
The Huskers travel to No. 21 Oregon for a three-game series beginning Friday in Eugene, Ore., at 7 p.m. Pregame coverage begins on KLIN at 6:30 p.m.
