The City announced Wednesday it has selected Constructors Inc. of Lincoln as the general contractor for Project “O” Street.  Two companies submitted proposals, and the selection process included both written proposals and in-person interviews.

Constructors Inc. received the highest evaluation scores for community engagement and submitted a bid that was $2 million lower than the competing proposal.  “Project “O” Street represents a generational investment in the heart of our city,” Mayor Gaylor Baird says. “The selection process placed a top priority on accountability to our community.”

She says the project requires close coordination with downtown businesses, residents, and property owners so construction moves forward while the district remains active and accessible.  The project  will update infrastructure and public spaces along “O” Street between Ninth and 16th streets.

Work on this project will also extend to “N” and “P” streets on 14th Street, and to “Q” Street on 11th Street. Improvements will include a new water main, lead water line replacement, street replacement or resurfacing, new sidewalks, new crosswalks, better lighting, and enhanced landscaping.

The City will implement the project in three phases, moving east to west, according to the following anticipated schedule:

  • Phase 1: spring 2026 to late fall 2026, 16th to 14th streets
  • Phase 2: fall 2026 to late spring 2027, 14th to 11th streets
  • Phase 3: spring 2027 to fall 2027, 11th to Ninth streets

The next Project “O” Street pre-construction open house is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7. The free event is from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of Union Bank Place, 1248 “O” St.
