The Nebraska baseball team clinched a Big Ten series win over Michigan State with a 4-1 victory Saturday at Hawks Field. Cornhuskers pitching combined to strike out 14 Spartans for the game, holding MSU to just one run and six hits.
Carson Jasa (2-1) earned the win, allowing four hits and six walks in five innings while striking out nine. The Nebraska bullpen locked the game down, throwing four shutout, two-hit innings, allowing just two walks with five strikeouts.
Michigan State scored in the top of the fourth when a bases-loaded walk to Khamaree Thomas drove in the first run of the game. Nebraska answered in the bottom of the fourth, when Will Jesske drove in a run with a single to left. The Huskers took the lead when a run scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth. Then Jett Buck put the finishing touches on the game with a solo home run to left that boosted Nebraska’s lead to 3-1.
It was part of a big day at the plate for Buck, who was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Mac Moyer was 3-for-5 with a double at the top of the lineup.
The Huskers will try to sweep the Spartans Sunday at Hawks Field. First pitch is slated for noon, with pregame coverage at 11:30 a.m. on KLIN.
