Lincoln Fire and Rescue has confirmed a second person has been found dead inside a home that was ravaged by fire early Friday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News the second victim was found late this morning.
She tells KLIN News says arriving crews found flames coming from two sides of the house and the windows around 4:00 a.m. There was significant damage inside and Lierman says firefighters encountered some obstacles as they tried to put the flames out. “Inside it was very crowded and there was a lot of debris and hoarding conditions and the fire was able to spread significantly before our arrival, ” Lierman says.
During a morning briefing, Lierman said the main floor collapsed into the basement where the first victim was found. A second alarm brought in additional crews and the hoarding situation forced firefighters to switch to a defensive strategy and battled the fire from the outside. Lierman says the home, valued at $250,000, is a total loss.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Lierman says there was a wood-burning stove in the basement and gas line issues.
