A two-run single by Jordy Frahm in the top of the sixth and three shutout innings from Frahm out of the bullpen propelled the No. 9 Nebraska softball team to a 4-3 win over No. 21 Oklahoma State Saturday in Stillwater, Okla. The win was the Cornhuskers’ 10th in the last 11 games, while the loss snapped the Cowgirls’ eight game winning streak and evened the weekend series at one game each heading into Sunday’s finale.
Frahm’s two-run single in the sixth came after Hannah Coor hit a one-out single to right. Then Bella Bacon hit a grounder to third. OSU third baseman Rosie Davis, who hit the game-winning home run in Oklahoma State’s 2-1 win over Nebraska in 11 innings Thursday, fielded the ball and threw to second, trying to force out Coor. The throw was just wide enough to pull second baseman Jayden Jones off the bag, giving the Huskers two on with one out. A Lauren Camenzind ground out to second moved Coor to third and Bacon to second, and Frahm delivered a go-ahead single to right off Ruby Meylan (4-4), an Omaha native who threw 10 innings of one-run ball against Nebraska Thursday.
Frahm (4-3) made sure the lead held up. Summoned from the bullpen in the fifth, Frahm retired nine of the 11 batters she faced, allowing just a single and a walk to close out the Huskers’ victory.
Nebraska had to come back to win. The Cowgirls cashed in two Nebraska errors to score two runs in the bottom of the third. The Huskers answered in the top of the fourth, as Malia Thoms clubbed a two-run home run to center to tie the game. But in the bottom of the fourth, Amanda Hasler led off with a single. Then with two outs, Audrey Schneidmiller singled to right, and Jones doubled to right to score Hasler and give OSU the lead until NU rallied for two in the sixth.
Nebraska finishes its weekend in Stillwater with a game against Oklahoma State Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
