After Friday night’s dramatic 9-8, 10-inning win by Nebraska baseball over No. 7 Auburn, the Tigers erased all the drama early Saturday, scoring four runs in the first, second and fifth innings en route to a 15-4, seven-inning mercy-rule win. The series is even at a game each.
The Tigers led 8-0 after two innings. Two-run home runs by Jett Buck in the fourth and by Nico Newhan in the fifth sliced the deficit in half, but Auburn finished off the Cornhuskers with four in the fifth and three runs in the seventh, bringing on the mercy rule.
Mason McCraine led the Tigers offense, hitting 4-for-5 with six RBI, including a home run. Eric Guevara added a 2-for-4 showing with two RBI and a homer. Auburn slugged three doubles and three home runs as part of a 12-hit attack. Mac Moyer was the lone Nebraska hitter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
Carson Jasa (1-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs in an inning. He surrendered three hits and two walks in his brief stint on the mound. Christian Chatterton (1-0) grabbed the win in relief, throwing 2.2 innings of shutout, no-hit relief.
The series finale between the Huskers and Auburn will be Sunday at 1 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 12:30 p.m. on KLIN.
