Lincoln Police say teenager who turned 18-years-old on Monday morning ended up in the Lancaster County Jail after fleeing from officers on two separate occasions.  LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night an LPD officer on patrol in a marked police cruiser saw a vehicle with no lights or plates on S. 9th Street.

She says the officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, 17-year-old Andrii Brychka, of Lincoln.  It was determined he had a broadcast for a disorderly vehicle and the black 2017
Volkswagen Passat was to be towed.

“While the officer was working on the incident, Brychka sped off, going nearly double the speed limit in a 30 mph zone without headlights,” Thomas says.  Just after 2 a.m. on Monday another officer was in the area of N. 27th and Holdrege when a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights sped past their cruiser.

“The officer attempted a traffic stop, but Brychka sped off. Other officers observed him using the red and blue lights and doing circles.”  Thomas says officers did not pursue his vehicle to maintain community safety.

Just after 3 a.m., Thomas says Brychka arrived home where officers were conducting surveillance.  “They took him into custody without incident. The vehicle was towed and deemed a
disorderly vehicle.”

Brychk had turned 18 at midnight and was arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for several traffic-related offenses.
