Louisville came back with three runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to erase a two-run deficit and down Nebraska, 4-2, Friday in Arlington, Texas. The Cornhuskers have lost back-to-back games after starting the season 3-0 for the first time since 2005.
It started well for Nebraska. In the top of the third, Cole Kitchens drove in a run with a single up the middle, giving the Huskers the lead. Dylan Carey added to the lead with a home run to right in the fifth, pushing the lead to 2-0.
But the Cardinals responded in the sixth. After scoring a run on an error, Griffin Crain hit a two-run double to give Louisville a 3-2 lead. The Cardinals tacked on a run in the top of the seventh, as Tague Davis homered to right field, pushing the lead to 4-2.
Ty Horn started the game on the mound and threw five solid innings, allowing one earned run and five hits while striking out five. Caleb Clark (1-1) took the loss out the bullpen, allowing two unearned runs in 0.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, after Ethan Eberle started for UL and allowed two earned runs and seven hits in 5.2 innings, Jack Brown (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of one-hit, shutout relief.
Carey led the Nebraska offense, hitting 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Griffin paced the Louisville lineup, hitting 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double.
The Huskers return to action Saturday night in Arlington, Texas, as Nebraska takes on Kansas State. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m., with first pitch at 7 p.m. on KLIN.
