Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen will have an opponent in the May primary. Omaha businessman and longtime Republican leader Scott Petersen announced Thursday that he is running for the office.
Petersen is pledging to bring a business-minded approach, strong accountability and respect for the rule of law to the office. “The Secretary of State’s office exists to serve the people of Nebraska,” Petersen says. “That means enforcing the law fairly, running secure and reliable elections, and making sure our state’s business and public record systems operate efficiently and professionally.”
Petersen is a business owner with decades of successful private-sector experience and a long record of service within the Nebraska Republican Party. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Nebraska’s Second Congressional District and on the Nebraska Republican Party Executive Committee.
Petersen said his decision to run comes from a belief that the Secretary of State’s office plays a critical role in maintaining public trust and ensuring government works as intended. “You deserve a Secretary of State who listens to, and works hard for, the people of Nebraska,” Petersen said.
“I will work every day to serve with integrity, follow the law, and make sure this office operates in a way that earns the trust of the public.”
