Former First Lady of Nebraska Susanne Shore officially announced her candidacy Thursday morning for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents in District 4. Shore, a lifelong advocate for education and families, says she aims to leverage her extensive background in university administration, health care and public service to ensure the university remains a world-class engine for opportunity.
“The University of Nebraska is our state’s leading talent engine and its most successful investment,” Shore says. “I am running for the Board of Regents to protect this multibillion-dollar asset and to ensure that every Nebraskan has access to an affordable, high-quality education that leads to a rewarding career.”
Prior to serving as First Lady, Shore’s career included work as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, as well as roles in university residence life and student success offices. She holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Oklahoma State University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Creighton University.
As Regent, Shore says her key priorities include accessibility and affordability, building a Next-Generation university system and quality and value for students and the state. She is the wife of former governor and current U-S Senator Pete Ricketts.
