Minnesota cruises past Husker women

The struggles continues for the Nebraska women’s basketball team, as the Cornhuskers lost their fourth straight and their seventh of their last nine games, this one to Minnesota, 84-67, Thursday in Minneapolis.

The Golden Gophers led 26-13 through one quarter, 49-30 at halftime, 60-52 through three quarters, then outscored Nebraska 24-15 in the final quarter. Britt Prince led the Huskers with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jessica Petrie scored 14. Amiah Hargrove tallied 13 and Logan Nissley added 12. Minnesota was led by Amaya Battle with 21 points, with Mara Braun adding 15. Sophie Hart pitched in 14, Grace Grocholski notched 12 on 5-for-6 shooting, while Tori McKinney scored 11.

Minnesota dominated the post, with the Gophers outscoring Nebraska in the paint, 52-22. Minnesota also outrebounded the Huskers, 36-29, while outshooting NU 53 percent to 41 percent. The Gophers never trailed in the contest.

Nebraska is back in action Monday at 11 a.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena against Iowa. Pregame coverage will begin at 10:30 a.m. on KLIN and B-107.3.
