The No. 5 Nebraska wrestling dominated Northwestern, with the Cornhuskers shutting out the Wildcats, 47-0, Sunday at John Cook Arena. Nebraska improved to 10-6, 3-3 in Big Ten duals. The Huskers earned bonus points in eight of the 10 matches.
The highlight of the dual was a run of three straight technical fall victories at 133, 141 and 149 pounds. After Jacob Van Dee beat Luis Bazan, 20-4, late in the second period, Brock Hardy dominated in his final match at home, winning by an 18-2 technical fall in the second period against Billy DeKraker. Chance Lamer followed at 149 pounds with a 22-6 tech fall win 34 seconds into the second period. The three straight technical fall wins boosted the Huskers’ lead to 18-0 through four matches.
After back-to-back forfeits by Northwestern at 157 and 165 pounds, pushing Nebraska’s lead to 30-0, Cristopher Minto gutted out a 6-3 decision for the Huskers over Eddie Enright. At 184 pounds, Silas Allred won by technical fall over JD Perez, 24-8, early in the third period. Camden McDanel followed with a 23-5 tech fall at 197 pounds over Alex Smith. At heavyweight, AJ Ferrari defeated Dirk Morley by major decision, 17-4.
The Huskers are back in action Feb. 13 against Illinois in Champaign, Ill., at 7 p.m.
