Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were sent to the Theta Zi fraternity house at 16th and R Street just after midnight. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the fire started on the outside of the UNL fraternity house.
She says crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the inside. “An improperly discarded cigarette caught the outside on fire and crews were there ventilating the structure for awhile because smoke was getting inside, but no one was needing to be relocated.”
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
