A Nebraska State Patrol trooper was nearly hit by an out-of-control vehicle while helping a driver near Lincoln last week.

Shared on social media, NSP said the near “tragedy” happened on Interstate 80 just west of Lincoln on Thursday, Jan. 29.

While assisting another driver, a car appears to lose control and drift between a trooper’s parked cruiser and a parked motorist on the shoulder, striking the civilians vehicle, and forcing the trooper to dive to safety.

“Even light snow can create slick driving conditions,” the video captioned. “There was only light snow, yet numerous slide-offs. Slow down. Lives are depending on it.”

One viewer online asked, “When this happens, does the driver get ticketed?”

NSP responded: “In this case, the priority was getting everyone out of that area and to safety since there had been 3 slide-offs in about 15 minutes.”
