Dr. Monica Oldenburg has resigned as chair of the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission, a move announced at the commission’s monthly meeting Monday.
Oldenburg was appointed to the panel last year by Gov. Jim Pillen. Until a replacement is named, Lorelle Meuting will serve as interim chair.
The commission is made up of three state liquor control commissioners and two members appointed by the governor. In mid-November, Pillen appointed Robert “Bud” Synhorst and James Elworth, bringing the commission to its full five-member membership.
The commission has maintained its current regulations despite persistent public criticism. Under those rules, smoking or vaping cannabis is prohibited, limiting medical cannabis use to pills and topical creams.
