Nebraska women’s basketball fell on the road to No. 11 Ohio State, losing 90-71 Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. The Cornhuskers were playing without Jessica Petrie, who missed the game with an illness.
Amiah Hargrove started in her absence, and led Nebraska (16-6/5-6 Big Ten) with 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting. Britt Prince added 12 points, while Logan Nissley contributed 11. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes (20-3/10-2 Big Ten) were led by Jaloni Cambridge, who had 30 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. All five Ohio State starters reached double digits, with Chance Gray scoring 21 points, Kennedy Cambridge tallying 12, and Ava Watson and Elsa Lemmila each scoring 10.
Ohio State had a 19-13 lead after one quarter. A 7-0 Nebraska run put the Huskers ahead, 20-19, with 8:34 until halftime. The Buckeyes answered with a 6-0 run to jump ahead, 25-20, with 7:33 to go in the second quarter. Another NU 5-0 run drew Nebraska to within 29-27 of OSU. Ohio State responded with a 7-2 run to lead, 36-29, with just over a minute to go in the half. The Buckeyes took a 39-31 lead to halftime.
In the third quarter, Ohio State opened a 20-point lead, 62-42, with 3:49 remaining. But Nebraska responded with a 12-2 run to end the quarter, slicing the Buckeyes’ lead in half to 64-54 heading to the final quarter. Hargrove started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to cut OSU’s lead to 64-57. After an Ohio State basket, Nissley hit a layup and made a free throw for a traditional three-point play to shrink the Buckeyes’ lead to 66-60 with just under nine minutes remaining. Two Hargrove free throws shrunk the Ohio State advantage to 66-62 with eight minutes to go. A Nissley putback sliced the OSU lead to 73-68 with 5:36 remaining. But then the Buckeyes sunk Nebraska with an 11-0 run, opening an 84-68 lead with 3:33 to play.
