Former Nebraska State Senator Brett Lindstrom announced Friday he is no longer a candidate in the race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District seat.  “This was not an easy decision,” Lindstrom says. “Over the past several weeks, I’ve taken time to reflect, pray, and have honest conversations with my family about where I can best focus my time and energy.”

Lindstrom says right now his priority needs to be with his family and continuing to make a difference in Omaha and across Nebraska, not in Washington, D.C.  He emphasized that the decision is not due to a lack of confidence in his campaign or its support.

“I was confident that we were on a strong path to winning the Republican nomination,” Lindstrom says.  “However, when looking ahead to what would be an exceptionally brutal general election, I felt it was the responsible decision to pause this campaign and step back at this time.”

Lindstrom expressed gratitude to the supporters, volunteers, and community leaders who stood with him throughout the campaign.  “I’m incredibly thankful for the encouragement and trust so many Nebraskans placed in me. That support is humbling, and it’s something I do not take lightly. I remain deeply committed to Nebraska and to advancing conservative principles.”

The seat is being vacated by Congressman Don Bacon, who announced last summer that he would not seek reelection. With Lindstrom’s departure, Brinker Harding remains the lone Republican in the race.

Several Democratic candidates will square off in the May primary.
