A Lincoln woman has been cited in connection to a fatal pedestrian crash from Christmas Eve 2025
Haileigh Kapke, 23, of Lincoln was cited and released Monday for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide. She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, near Pioneers Boulevard and Nebraska Parkway. Investigators believe that Kapke was driving west on Pioneers when she struck 56-year-old Jody Lund of Lincoln, who was crossing the road in the crosswalk.
Lund was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed. She died from her injuries on Friday, Jan. 2.
Following Lund’s death, LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas said investigators began looking into the crash as a motor vehicle homicide. The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office postponed charging the citation written to Kapke for Failure to Yield to allow for further investigation.
