Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews battled a shed fire that spread to the outside of a home at 615 Saunders Avenue around 2:00 Sunday afternoon. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the fire started in a detached shed that was being used to house several animals.
Lierman says the fire was caused by a heat lamp being used to keep baby goats warm. She says five of the goats and four ducks were killed in the fire. It’s not known how many animals were in the shed, which was a total loss.
There was also damage to the outside of the vacant house that was five feet away. Crews were able to stop the flames from extending into the house. The total loss was estimated at $50,000.
