Lincoln Transportation and Utilities outlining transportation improvements to 27th Street between Nebraska Parkway and South Street during a public open house on Thursday, January 29,   The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Irving Middle School near 28th and Van Dorn.

The Lincoln on the Move project would focus on maintaining and improving the existing street and infrastructure, but not widening the street.  Planned work includes concrete repair or replacement, joint and crack sealing, curb and median repair or replacement, mill and overlay, public utility adjustments, updated pavement markings, and storm drain inlet top replacements.

Additional work with other funding sources would include signal replacements at Woods Boulevard, Sheridan Boulevard, and Van Dorn Street and the addition of pedestrian crossings with a rectangular rapid flashing beacon at Stockwell Street and O’Reilly Drive.

Other work will include upgrades to existing curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and water main repairs and lead service line replacements.  The project is estimated to cost $5.45 million. Construction funding would come from a combination of Lincoln on the Move, Highway Allocation Fund, and Lincoln Water System funds. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2026.

Design information will be displayed during the open house and personnel from LTU and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments from residents.  For more information on the open house or the project, click here.
