Lincoln streets should be less bumpy due to the lack of snow and ice this winter.  Erika Hill with Lincoln Transportation and Utilities tells KLIN News crews have been able to turn their attention away from plowing streets to fixing potholes to begin the new year.

“We have already filled 1,675 potholes,” Hill says. LTU crews have been filling street craters while patrolling streets in every part of the city.  They also  respond to calls from citizens and fill those holes as well.

Hill says because the streets are dry and temperatures have been warm, crews are able to fill the potholes with hot mix asphalt, which provides a long term fix.  “That material will actually last two or three years compared to our cold material which is a little bit more of a temporary fix, that we only use when it’s below freezing.”

Hill says crews have also been able to seal cracks in the unseasonably warm weather to help maintain streets.  Lincoln residents who want to report potholes across the city can click here.
