Lincoln Police say there’s good news concerning the number of people falling victim to crypto scams. The number of reported crypto scam cases dropped from 133 in 2024 to 127 in 2025.
Public Information Manager Erika Thomas say only five cases were reported each month for November and December.
Those were the lowest months of 2025, after the city announced plans to create a new ordinance focused on the issue and place warnings at every crypto ATM in Lincoln. The ordinance was signed in November and the deadline for sticker placement was December 24.
“This shows that awareness works, Thomas says. “The more we talk about scams the better we protect our hard-earned money.” Total loss is still on the rise, tripling in just the last two years.
In 2025, each victim lost an average of almost $35,000. “That’s why it takes a community effort to lower the number of victims and the total financial loss to crypto scams,” Thomas says.
“Please help the City of Lincoln and LPD by sharing this information so you and your loved ones can avoid becoming a victim.” You can learn more about the issue and ways to protect yourself on by clicking here.
