Nebraska football had a big addition from the transfer portal, and a big loss to the transfer portal, Sunday as the first weekend with college football’s transfer portal open. Quarterback Kenny Minchey committed to transfer from Notre Dame to the Cornhuskers, while defensive tackle Keona Davis announced he would enter the transfer portal after starting the entire 2025 season for Nebraska on the defensive line.

Minchey has two remaining years of eligibility. A backup at Notre Dame this past season, he played in six games and was 20-of-26 passing for 196 yards and rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Minchey would seem to slot as a bridge between Dylan Raiola and Trae Taylor, a highly-touted recruit that is committed to the Class of 2027 and would have a year of apprenticeship under Minchey before taking the starting QB spot in 2028. Minchey’s commitment was reported by several media outlets. Minchey is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job with incumbent TJ Lateef, the lone returning scholarship quarterback on the NU football roster.

Davis moved into a starting role on the defensive line this year, making 32 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His 32 stops were most among defensive linemen for Nebraska this season.

The transfer portal opened Friday and will remain open until Jan. 16.
