A free holiday taxi program is returning to Lincoln to help keep impaired drivers off the road during one of the most dangerous times of the year.
Friedman Law Offices, in partnership with zTrip, is offering free rides home through its annual Let Friedman Drive program from December 15 through December 31, operating nightly from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
According to data from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, more than 10,000 people die each year in drunk-driving crashes, with nearly 40 percent of traffic deaths during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays involving impaired drivers.
Friedman Law’s program provides free, safe rides home for licensed drivers who have been drinking, as long as the destination is a residence within Lancaster County.
“People are happy, people are celebrating, people are at parties where they might be getting free drinks. That’s why we’ve decided to offer this program year after year because we want people to have fun, celebrate, but do so safely in a way that doesn’t endanger folks in the community,” Owner Dan Friedman told KLIN News.
