Lincoln Police stepped up enforcement for each Husker home game this season and results of that campaign have been released. Police say the majority of the officers assigned to the traffic detail were off-duty and they signed-up on their day off.
About 30 of those off-duty officers directed traffic at numerous intersections in and around downtown to get fans in vehicles and on foot where they need to go safely and efficiently. Additional officers also worked special details downtown and the Railyard, focusing on various alcohol offenses, tavern violations and other law violations.
During the enforcement effort officers wrote 80 speeding tickets and issued 177 no registration citations. Another 26 drivers were cited for no insurance and 28 citations were issued to people who were not wearing seat belts.
There were also 18 Minor in Possession citations issued and officers conducted 79 tavern checks. The overtime hours was made possible through funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
