A documentary that explores the complexities of family conflict, political and racial discord and the difficult search for common ground, will be playing at the Ross Theatre in Lincoln now through Sunday afternoon.

It’s called “My Omaha” and filmmaker Nick Beaulieu talked with KLIN News about about his journey to tell his story.  “Kind of looking back at the last ten years at the year political, cultural, social changes happening in America.  It’s obviously an Omaha story, but really it’s an American story.”

The film addresses the growing divide between family members on opposite sides of the American political divide.  “And that’s expressed through the relationship between me and my dad as we try to bridge out political differences and heal some of the division that we have in our life.”

During production of “My Omaha” Beaulieu says his father Randy, a staunch pro-Trump supporter, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and tells KLIN News it was a race against time to capture their relationship before he passed away.

“A lot of people have said I’m going through the same thing with my dad, or with my brother, you name it,” Beaulieu says.  “Most people I feel like have someone in their life where politics has really created a serious issue with their interpersonal relationships.”

Show times for “My Omaha” are:
