Christmas came early for the Salvation Army in Lincoln over the weekend. Major Kelsie Moreno-McCarter says they have once again received a valuable gold coin in one of their red kettles. “A wonderful gold coin appeared in the kettle at Scheels and it came with a very special note that said ‘I’m thankful to live in Lincoln, Nebraska,” McCarter says.
She says the anonymous donor, who wants to remain anonymous, donated the coin in hopes of inspiring others in Lincoln to give generously as the 2025 Tree of Lights Campaign wraps up. “The American Gold Buffalo Coin is 1 ounce of pure gold and the value is over $4,200.00.
She says it will be sold and the money will help families in need during the holidays and throughout the year. The Salvation Army has currently raised 57 percent of it’s $625,000.00 end-of-the year goal.
McCarter says donations arriving through the mail are significantly down this year compared to last year.
