New Exhibit for ‘Tweens’ Opens Saturday at the Lincoln Children’s Museum

By Chase Porter Dec 12, 2025 | 12:33 PM

A new space is opening this weekend at the Lincoln Children’s Museum.

The new “LNKLab” is designed specifically for kids ages 8 to 12, expanding the Museum’s offerings for older children and creates hands-on opportunities for reading, movement, creativity, and community involvement.

A grand opening event will take place on Saturday, December 13, from 9 AM to 5 PM. To help celebrate this milestone, seven members of the LOVB Nebraska Volleyball team will join the Museum from 9 AM to 11 AM. Jordan Larson, Emily Thater, Vicky Savard, Anne Buijs, Ana Carolina Da Silva, Iga Wasilewska, and Kimberly Drewniok will be available for photos, signatures, and a meet and greet. The first 100 kids will receive a free four-inch volleyball to have signed during the meet and greet.

The LNKLab features three activity zones. The Book Nook offers a space to relax, read graphic novels, and take a quiet break. The Energy Base invites kids to climb the rock wall or challenge themselves through games on an interactive projector. The Maker Studio provides opportunities for advanced craft projects and hands-on activities that encourage imagination and problem solving.

Every two months, the Museum will highlight a nonprofit partner in the Maker Studio. Guests will work with the Museum team on craft projects that support each organization’s mission. The first partnership, taking place in December and January, is with the Capital Humane Society. Kids will upcycle T-shirts into dog and cat toys and use cardboard cutters to create scratching toys for cats.

“This new space gives tweens a place to explore their interests and discover new skills in an environment made just for them,” said Tara Knuth, CEO of the Lincoln Children’s Museum.
